In the current economic climate, any sporting organisation that can hang on to its sponsors is fortunate indeed. This season marks the tenth anniversary of the Greaves Sports sponsorship of Clydesdale. To mark the renewal of their support for another year, we took current professional, Nazar Hussain - a very personable 23-year-old bowling all-rounder - to see around the main Greaves store in Glasgow 's Gordon Street , where he took possession of a pair of new cricket footwear from cricket manager Julian Lefevre.
During the ten years of the company's sponsorship, we won promotion from the first division of the old national league, and then followed this up by winning the Premier League title in the following two seasons. At the same time, the club's junior section enjoyed a fresh flourish of enthusiasm and development, as a raft of talented players came through to the senior teams.
All of which helped to bring a top Sportscotland award for Greaves Sports for the grassroots sponsorship of the year, and it wasn't long before the club's ground also gained ICC One-Day International status in 2007.
Greaves Sports managing director Sandy Greaves said: “Cricket is woven into the fabric of Greaves Sports and, as a proud Glasgow-based business, we are delighted to be associated with Clydesdale.”
Kasim Farid (club captain) this season, said: "After 10 years, it's fantastic that Greaves continues to support cricket at Clydesdale." And Colin Mitchell (record-breaking captain for six of these ten years - and now chairman of cricket) added: "It is no surprise that our association with Greaves has coincided with the sustained and continuing development of the club, both on and off the field."
