Midweek skipper Jay Duncan reports from Thursday evening’s Glasgow Cup tie:
The Cavaliers were unable to overcome a strong Victoria side on Thursday evening at Glasgow green. In the first innings the visiting bowlers were expensive with most going at 10+ per over. Victoria opener Shuga displayed his talent ,launching the ball over the flags on several occasions in an explosive knock which was a decisive factor in this match. The fielding was poor as a general malaise effected the team, perhaps the huge Chinook helicoptor rehearsing landing patterns overhead or the drama of a nearby blaze with police and fire engines on the scene were in part to blame as we were caught napping throughout the Victoria innings although 2 catches were taken and a sharp stumping from Tim saw Usman claim the prize wicket.
In reply Amaar Riaz was the standout batsman building a solid looking innings which was well supported by Tim. This would prove to be the only significant partnership however as the wickets tumbled cheaply and with the result in no doubt the Cavaliers negotiated the final few overs from a poor display they would rather forget.
