Uddingston Beat U15”B”
The 10-man U15”B” team, which included 6 U13s travelled to Uddingston. Bowling first, Pavel Sharma (playing as the permitted overage player) struck early to leave Uddingston 8/1 off 2.4 overs. The next wicket fell with the last ball of the 6th over – with the score on 40! But then another wicket fell. Then, over 9 saw U13 Jehanzeb Mobarik bowl a dot, before removing the middle stump with each of his next three deliveries (to take the 2nd hat-trick of the season by a Junior player…and the 2nd in 4 days!) as the batters decided to try and launch perfectly straight deliveries somewhere over mid wicket! 2 overs later another two wickets fell – this time to Remo Margiotta and with Rafiq Sher picking up a wicket in over 12, Uddingston were 66/9. Uddingston’s over-age player (batting at 11) then shared in a last wicket partnership of 39 before Hassan Rafiq returned to take his second wicket of the evening. Uddingston 105 all out.
The reply was always going to be difficult with the U15”B” lacking any really experienced batters. Despite encouraging first and second wicket partnerships (Rafy and Momin Sarwar 23, then Momin and Shaan Khan 25) the experience of the batters showed as they just couldn’t get bat on ball often enough and when they did, they couldn’t quite find the gaps. Harris Mahmood showed some fighting spirit by hitting 10 off 2 balls and Remo (batting at number 9) probably played the shot of the game with a delicate run shot to third man for 3…but the U15”B”s would end up 83 all out.
Some positives though – 9 of the 10 wickets taken by the “B”s were bowled and the 10th was LBW, Ihtisham Malik bowled a maiden, Jose took his hat-trick, Remo recorded his best bowling figures, Momin and Shaan both got starts with the bat, Harris hit a big six and the guys batted into the last over.
