U15s Cruise Into Next Round

Monday evening saw the season’s first competitive Junior game of cricket played. Hillhead were the visitors to Titwood for the U15 National Cup clash and the U15s would run out as comfortable victors.

Finlay Walker actually won a toss and the U15s chose to bat. Ahmad Chaudhry and Ilan Selby opened but Ilan was out 5th ball, getting caught by the keeper off a leading edge. Ahmad made a fine 51 and Lyle Hill added a typically excellent 52 before both had to retire due to the cup rules. Haris Chaudhry came and went (caught and bowled for 0) before Finlay and Ilyaas Rehman added 34 off in the last 3 overs (Fin 20* and Ilyaas 14*). U15s 164/2.

In reply Hillhead were 9/1 off 7 overs as Haris, Keshav Kanabar and Suhaib Siddiqui bowled well. However, there was a disaster as Keshav failed to take a wicket for the U15s for the first time…ever, breaking the streak of 11 games! Leading wicket taker from last year, Iain McDermott, then had a bit of a Harmison moment before bowling a delivery that beat everything…including the stumps, somehow. A sore hamstring cut short his spell, so Fin took over and finished with 4/4! Ilan Selby had figures of 2-2-0-1 before Lyle experimented with some off-spin in the darkness…and that’s the last time that that experiment will be tried! And there was even time for the sub fielder (Zuhayr Siddiqui) to take a decent catch. Hillhead 46/7.

A good start to the season as the U15s won by 118 runs.
