Cup Cruise for U13s
Thursday May 8th was the date as the U13s finally got to play their 1st game of the season. The season started in poorly as Captain Lyle Hill lost the toss and Clydesdale were made to field.
Despite a first over beamer that was dispatched for 4, Haris Chaudhry began the season in fine form – picking up 4/9 from his 4 overs. However, it was skipper Lyle who picked up wicket 1 of the season – bowled. Lyle was also to pick up wicket number 2 just as Drumpellier were beginning to look well set and it was danger-man Abdul Sabri – well caught by Jasim Beg.
Another decent partnership took Drumpellier to 60/2 before Chris McCrossan stuck twice in an over to begin the collapse. Drumpellier struggled to 80/9 off their 20 overs with Haris, Lyle, Chris and Saif Ali picking up the wickets.
U13 openers Sufian Ali and Jasim Beg started watchfully – 2/0 off 2. Over 3 saw Sufian hit a nice shot through the covers for the first boundary of the season. From there on the runs flowed freely as Clydesdale went on to win by 8 wickets – with Lyle Hill finishing 18* and Finlay Walker 12*. The only slight disappointment from the batting point of view was that both Sufian (12) and Jasim (25) did the hard work and played themselves in before playing shots that they would regret as they threw their wickets away. |
