Junior Coaching Begins
With the first WJCU League match rapidly approaching, a sunny (if slightly cool) Monday evening provided a good opportunity for everyone to begin to get back into cricket mode. The 14th of April saw the Junior season officially begin with the first of the weekly Junior Coaching evenings. Over 60 young people attended the session – with many familiar faces being seen and several new ones too…and some even noticed that the Junior Pavilion has one less wall than it had last season!
The session was split into 3 groups – an U15 / U18 group (which contained a handful of the Club’s newly qualified coaches), an U13 group (ably assisted by another newly qualified coach) and an U10 / U11 group (which featured 2 more newly qualified coaches). The U15 and U18 group tried out the re-laid Astroturf nets and then finished with some football, whereas the U13 and U10 / U11 groups utilised the dry patches of the outfield to have a slightly more gentle breaking-back-in session.
The focus will now turn to the start of the Leagues and Cups with the U15s playing the first competitive match of the season – away to East Kilbride on Friday 25th. Monday 28th will see the U13s begin their campaign as Drumpellier are welcomed to Titwood for the U13 Cup clash, while the U11s begin with a trip to Renfrew on Friday 2nd May. As usual, the U18 League begins later than the rest and a tricky trip to Ferguslie is first up – on Monday 26th May. |
