Original Match Report

Titwood were locked in a battle with St Michaels to see who win the Division and claim promotion back to Division One of the Western Union . The pitch was a road. Cambusdoon won the toss and chose to bat. Debutant Ryan Wilson quickly made his mark by picking up an early wicket and Johnny MacKay also claimed an early scalp thanks to a great catch from keeper Craig Smith. From there, things got a lot more difficult as Cambusdoon reached 227/6 off their 50 overs - although Tim Hart took 3/52. Despite the big target, the pitch meant that Titwood felt they had a real chance. At 55/3 off 18 overs, with Zulfiqar Shahid and Craig Smith both “adjudged” LBW, Haroon Sher also out and the combined age of the two batters at the crease being under 35, it’s fair to say confidence was waning…slightly! However, given that Sam Page had been performing outstandingly all season and given that Andrew Scobie had just discovered himself as a real “go-to” guy with the bat on the U18 Tour to Guernsey the previous week, there should have been no need to even consider panicking. The partnership would finish as an unbroken 177 and at the most crucial point of the season too. Sam finished 88*, Andrew finished 91* and rain would mean that Titwood would not play another game in the league that season. Any dropped points would have cost Titwood a deserved league title…but Sam and Scobie ensured it would be party time at Titwood and Western Cup success followed a few weeks later, in front of a boisterous home crowd.
The Result: Titwood won (by 7 wickets)
The CCC Players: Haroon Sher , Zulfiqar Shahid, Sam Page , Craig Smith (+), Andrew Scobie , Hafeez Siddiq , Mohammed Ali, Tim Hart (*), Neil Fulton , Ryan Wilson and Johnny MacKay .
The Star Performer(s): Sam Page and Andrew Scobie

Original Match Report

Guernsey “Fly for Sport XI” won the toss and chose to bat. After 9 overs they were 13/1 as the U18 Clydesdale Tour Squad look set to build on their good win of the day before, when the bowling starred. 136/4 off 35 overs and things still looked just about okay. Then everything fell to bits: the catching, the ground fielding, the bowling – there were drops, mis-fields, over-throws, wides and no-balls. 100 runs came in the last 10 overs as Guernsey “Fly for Sport XI” scored 236/6 off their 45 overs. Given the U18 Clydesdale Tour Squad was bowler-heavy, defeat looked fairly inevitable. The challenge laid down was for the batters to try and occupy the crease for the full 45 overs and…”you never know”. The top order took their time and started watchfully. 27/2 off 14 overs. 31 overs to go and pretty much sevens were needed. A good 46 from Hamid Mahmood took the U18 Tour Squad to 114/5 at the second drinks break. 15 overs, 123 to win. 5 wickets left, needing 8.2 an over. Any betting man would have said no chance. Team Manager / Coach Tim Hart did…and the dinner and drinks bill came to £275. Andrew Scobie made a breezy 26, Johnny MacKay ran everything and picked the gaps in an unorthodox manner and Arun Krishna produced the finest innings of his life with some blistering strokes and aggressive running, finishing with his first ever half-century…after taking a couple of balls to acclimatise to conditions at the start of his innings!
The Result: U18 Clydesdale Tour won (by 2 wickets)
The CCC Players: Jasim Beg, Calum Campbell (+), Hamid Mahmood, Arthur Johnson , Andrew Scobie (*), Finlay Walker , Johnny MacKay , Arun Krishna , Scott Turnbull, Haris Chaudhry , Umair Chaudhry and Bilawal Pirzada.
The Star Performer(s): Haris Chaudhy (with the ball), Hamid Mahmood, Johnny MacKay and Arun Krishna (with the bat).
