Original Match Report

It was very cold and very wet – another typical dreich Scottish day. The Cavaliers travelled to Glasgow Green football centre to play Victoria and were greeted by a predictably long and uncut outfield. The match was reduced to 16 overs per side. Victoria won the toss and elected to bat. Zeeshan Bashir finished with the quite remarkable figures of 1/20 off his 4 overs, given that Victoria racked up 160 from their 16 overs. Falak Sher (3 overs for 28), Humza Sher (3 overs for 37), Tim Hart (4 overs for 46) and Haroon Sher (2 overs for 16….including a maiden!) were all dispatched to all parts, as the fielders got well acquainted with every boundary. Zeeshan (bowled), Humza (bowled), Tim (caught by Liam King) and Haroon (caught by Tim) did pick up wickets as Victoria finished 160/4 off 16 overs.

In reply, there was only one option – to go for it right from ball one. Haroon Sher smashed 28 off the 2nd over. Zeeshan Bashir made a quick 13 before being caught and Ajaz Sher followed with a brisk 15 before being bowled. Sohail Hayat (caught) and Mike Modlin (bowled) also followed quickly as the Cavaliers charge threatened to whimper out. However Haroon was continuing to take the bowling to bits…and he found a willing ally in Falak Sher. Haroon was caught for a breath-taking 61 and Humza followed run out for 1 shortly thereafter. Falak continued to take the attack to Victoria and Tim Hart effectively picked out the legside boundary on a couple of occasions. Falak would fall with the victory line in sight for a breezy 32. Danny Ferry picked up a 2 before the win was sealed with a four from Tim…as the Cavaliers won with 9 balls to spare.

322 runs came in 30.3 overs as the Cavaliers claimed an outstanding win.

The Result: Cavaliers won (by 3 wickets)

Original Match Report

Clydesdale batted first and racked up 117/4 off the 20 overs. Shreyas Chitnis led from the top with 32 (retired) and there were useful contributions from Patrick Barbour (16), Hamza Salah (17) and Calum Campbell (23).

However the real story began at the turnaround. Ayr’s best batter opened and decided to bat at 2 instead of 1. 5 balls into the innings and he really wished he hadn’t. Ayr 0/5 – as Umair Chaudhry literally demolished the entire Ayr top order. 5 balls, 5 clean bowled wickets and it was effectively game over. (However the pressure of the sixth ball got to Umair as he pinged it down the legside for 5 wides!)

Ayr’s top man would make 27 before being caught by Shreyas off the bowling of David Henderson. Cameron Ellam, Shreyas and Humza Salah would also pick up wickets…but it was Umair’s day!

The Result: U13s won by 68 runs.
